What is a triple-lock, and Why would I need one on my new Security Door? Single lock security doors are standard issue, and they're great. The sense of security and peace of mind that comes from having a locked security door, is the very thing that makes them worthwhile. A single lock door has one locking mechanism, in the centre where the handle is. If an invader was seriously attempting to get through your door, single locks can potentially allow for a crowbar or other implement to prise the door from the frame at either the bottom or the top of the door. No one wants Triple locks doors however, are next level when it comes to securing your home. Triple lock doors have three locking points, in the centre, then another above the handle, and another below the handle. The three locking points operate seamlessly from one key lock, and absolutely provide superior security for your home and family. You can sleep well when you have a triple-lock security door securing your home.

Do I need a pet door for my fur baby? How many times per day....or night, do you get up to let your fur baby out? Or in? And then back out again? This is a problem that can be easily solved at Screen Factory. We can include a pet door in your new Security Door, or we can retro-fit a pet door into your existing screen door. Our pet doors come in three different sizes, to suit your baby's needs. We have found that it can take pets only a couple of days to learn how to use it. Once they realise that they need to use the top of their head to push the pet door, and not their sensitive nose, they're off and running. Which means that you can sit still....

I've got my brand new security door! Now how do I clean and maintain it? New security doors look fantastic, and can really modernise the look of your home. Most of all though, is the feeling of increased security, and peace of mind that a new Security Door brings. To keep the great look going, there are some simple things that you can do to maintain your new Security Door. If you notice dust, periodically wipe down your door with a damp microfibre cloth. Every so often, get a bucket of warm soapy water, and wash your door down with some bubbles. At Screen Factory, we recommend using a liquid soap such as dishwashing liquid, or carwash soap. Things that you probably already have on hand. Hose your door down when finished. If you open the door completely, and hold it open with the door closer, you can hose your door without risk of water splashing around the doorway into your home. In addition, if your hinges or lock mechanism ever become squeaky or stiff, spray them with silicon spray from your hardware shop. This will keep everything moving smoothly, and keep your door in good operating order for years to come.

When your security screens, and insect screens are first installed, they look great. They are clean and sparkly, look great on your house. New security screens can really modernise the look of your home, as well as provide that deep sense of safety that happens when you know your home is secure. How then, do you keep them looking clean and sparkly? Of course they can trap dust. This may be a little, or depending on your location, it may be a lot.... Your screens will benefit from being wiped down frequently with a damp microfibre cloth. It's that easy. But if you feel that more dust has accumulated than can be easily removed with a cloth, you may choose to wash them with warm soapy water. Fly screens can usually be removed easily, hosed down, washed with warm soapy water, and then hosed off again. At Screen Factory, we recommend using a liquid soap such as dish washing liquid, or car washing liquid, things that you might already have in stock at home. Your doors, not being removable, can be hosed if you open the door wide (90 degrees angle to the house) and hold it open with your door closer at the top. Then you are able to carefully hose the door, without any water splashing into your home. Wash with warm water and bubbles, and then carefully hose off again, to ensure complete removal of all soap. Simple Maintenence like this, as often as required, is as simple as it gets to keep your security and insect screens looking great, well into the future...

To Compliment, or Contrast? How do I choose the best colour for my new Security Screens or insect screens? When choosing the colour for your new security screens or insect screens, how do you know which colour will be the best for you? Start by taking a stroll around your home. Take notice of the colour schemes that are already there. Look at the colour of your home, the colour of your gutters and fascia, and also take note of the colour of your existing aluminium windows. With regards to your existing aluminium windows and sliding doors, the general rule of thumb for this decision, is to stick with the colour of your existing aluminium frames. This choice will result in your new security screens or insect screens matching easily with your existing frame colour, resulting in a streamlined classy look. For example, if your aluminium windows are white, it will generally look odd if you chose a darker colour for the security screens. We access the Colorbond range, to match your existing look. One very popular choice for existing timber homes, is the Colorbond colour of Merbau, for a knockout timber look on your home... With regards to the front and back door, have a look at your existing door and surrounding area. You may consider to keep the colour the same as your windows for a matching effect around the whole house, or many people are choosing black (Colorbond colour Monument), for their front and back door, and this colour has become very popular in recent times.

When it comes to enhancing the safety, comfort, and functionality of your home, choosing the right screens is an essential step. With so many options available, it can feel overwhelming to decide what’s best for your property. This guide will walk you through the key considerations and help you find the perfect fit for your needs. Understanding Your Needs Before you start shopping, take a moment to assess your specific requirements. Are you looking for extra security to protect your home from intruders? Do you want to keep pesky insects out while enjoying fresh air? Or perhaps you live in a bushfire-prone area and need specialised screens for added safety. Identifying your priorities will help narrow down the options and ensure you make an informed decision. Types of Screens to Consider There are several types of screens designed to address different needs. Let’s break them down: 1. Security Screens Security screens are a great choice if protection is your top priority. Made from durable materials like stainless steel mesh, these screens are impact-tested to withstand forced entry attempts. They’re ideal for doors and windows and provide peace of mind without compromising airflow or visibility. 2. Insect Screens Insect screens are perfect for those who want to enjoy the outdoors without inviting bugs inside. These lightweight, damage-resistant screens are designed to fit seamlessly into your windows and doors, allowing natural ventilation while keeping flies and mozzies out. 3. Bushfire Screens For those living in bushfire-prone areas, bushfire screens are a must. These fire-resistant screens are built to withstand high temperatures and ember attacks, providing critical protection during fire season. 4. Pet Doors If you have furry friends, pet doors are a practical addition. Designed to integrate with your existing screens, they give your pets the freedom to move in and out without compromising your home’s security. Key Features to Look For When evaluating screens, consider the following features to ensure you’re making the best choice: Durability: Look for materials that can withstand wear and tear, weather conditions, and potential impacts. Custom Fit: Screens should be tailored to your property’s dimensions for a seamless and secure installation. Ease of Maintenance: Opt for screens that are easy to clean and require minimal upkeep to stay in top condition. Style Options: Choose designs and finishes that complement your home’s aesthetic while meeting your functional needs. Benefits of Professional Installation While DIY options are available, professional installation ensures your screens are fitted securely and function as intended. Experts can assess your property, recommend the best solutions, and handle the installation process efficiently. This not only saves you time and effort but also guarantees long-lasting results. Caring for Your Screens To maximise the lifespan of your screens, regular maintenance is key. Here are some simple tips: Clean Regularly: Use a soft brush or cloth with mild soapy water to remove dust and grime. Avoid abrasive materials that could damage the mesh or frame. Check for Damage: Inspect your screens periodically for tears, loose fittings, or other issues. Address any problems promptly to prevent further damage. Lubricate Moving Parts: For screens with sliding mechanisms, apply a light lubricant to keep them operating smoothly. Why Investing in Quality Screens Matters Screens are more than just functional additions—they’re an investment in your home’s safety, comfort, and overall value. High-quality screens can deter intruders, improve ventilation, and protect against environmental hazards, making them a worthwhile upgrade for any property. Making the Right Choice Choosing the right screens doesn’t have to be complicated. Ever wondered what all the fuss about Australian Standards is? Well, if you are talking about security screen doors and windows, what could be more important than the security of your home, and the safety of you and your family? A product that is not manufactured to the highest quality specifications is unlikely to be able to do what it is intended to do – keep your home safe and secure. Buying a product that has passed the standard gives you peace of mind that it is manufactured from quality materials and will perform as it should. And believe us – many of the prefabricated screen doors you buy off the shelf are not designed to meet Australian Standards. They are usually screen doors, not security doors. Let’s take a closer look at what an Australian Standard is and how a security screen door or window needs to be made, to qualify.
